How choice is at the heart of happiness and delivering high-quality adult care provision

How choice is at the heart of happiness and delivering high-quality adult care provision at Peverel Court Care

At Peverel Court, one of our core values as a business is Service Quality and we aim to provide an unsurpassed service that delivers exceptional care to our residents and their families.

In order to achieve this, we aim to nurture a culture of positivity within the business. We are approaching this by focusing on achieving continuous progress in small increments, rather than through an immediate transition to perfection. We’re also committed to the principle that “choice equals happiness” and that is why we ensure that choice is at the heart of decision making across the organisation.

Happiness of our care home staff

Fundamental to delivering a culture of positivity in the business is the happiness of our staff.

Therefore, at Peverel Court Care we have implemented a number of initiatives aimed at supporting our team and giving them flexibility in their working lives. This includes rewards and recognition programmes, career development pathways and our Employee Assistance Programme. The Employee Assistance Programme is a confidential employee benefit designed to help staff deal with any personal and work-related issues that might be affecting them. Whether they are struggling at home or at work, our helpline is available 24/7, 365 days a year so they will always have the support they need.

We also provide our team with the Employee Support Hub, powered by Health Assured, which gives them access to qualified therapists over the phone or via live chat.

Peverel Court Care have also partnered with Perkbox Medical to provide employees with 24/7 access to an online GP as we appreciate how tricky it can be to schedule appointments around working hours. The online GP service allows employees to interact with a certified doctor, via app or website from anywhere with internet, or Wi-Fi access. Employees can book an appointment and be seen within minutes, ask for advice, as well as receiving prescriptions and referrals, all at a time of their choosing.

Choice, Happiness and Productivity

Research by Oxford University’s Saïd Business School, in collaboration with British multinational telecoms firm BT, has found a conclusive link between happiness and productivity.

The authors of the report stated that while the link between happiness and productivity has previously been discussed often, their study provides the first causal evidence for this relationship.

“There seems to be considerable room for improvement in the happiness of employees while they are at work. While this is clearly in the interest of workers themselves, our analysis suggests it is also in the interests of their employers.

There has never been such strong evidence. We found that when workers are happier, they work faster by making more calls per hour worked and, importantly, convert more calls to sales.”

Professor Jan-Emmanue De Neve, Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.

8 Factors That Determine Workplace Happiness and Productivity

A recent article suggested 8 key factors which help to determine workplace happiness and, as a consequence, productivity. These were:

  • A Healthy Workplace Environment
  • Team Building Activities
  • A Good Work-Life Balance
  • Workplace Flexibility
  • Appreciation
  • Growth Potential
  • Autonomy
  • Transparency

Happiness in our care homes

At Peverel Court Care, we are embracing the advice of experts and attempting to provide choice and support to ensure that our workforce remains happy, committed and productive.

As a result of these and other initiatives over many years, we are delighted to retain a long-serving, experienced and dedicated staff across our award-winning care homes in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

And it is our team who utilise their experience, expertise and positivity to continue to deliver exceptional care to our residents. Through supporting our staff and ensuring that they are happy and have choices in their work, we are also ensuring the happiness and ability to choose for our residents.

That is one of the many reasons why at the 2022 carehome.co.uk Awards, Peverel Court Care were again recognised as one of the Top 20 Rated Small Care Home Groups in the UK. We couldn’t have achieved that without our staff and would like to express our gratitude for their continued hard work and dedication.

PCC wins carehome.co.uk Group Awards for fourth consecutive year

Peverel Court Care are delighted to announce that we have been named as recipients of the ‘Top 20 Recommended Care Home Group’ Award for 2019, the fourth consecutive year we have received the award.

The awards, presented by sector-leading review website carehome.co.uk, aim to highlight the most recommended Care Home Groups in the UK, and are based on over 120,000 reviews from care home residents, as well as their friends and family.

Some of the glowing reviews we’ve received on the carehome.co.uk website this year from residents and their families include:

From the moment I arrived with my mother, the quality of the care was evident. I knew from that moment on my sister and I had chosen a truly wonderful place for our mother. The staff are extremely passionate about their care for patients. I’m just so glad we chose Stone House.

Richard W (Son of Resident)

Merryfield is a lovely home. The management are genuinely kind and have all worked as carers themselves in the past so they know exactly what quality care looks like. I cannot recommend Merryfield highly enough.

Francesca B (Friend of Resident)

As soon as I contacted Bartletts the staff made me feel that my mother was going to receive the care I wanted her to have. She was given a great welcome. The staff are very kind and when problems arose they were sorted out straight away. Bartletts is now Mum’s home, where we are very welcome to visit as if it were her own home.

Eileen B (Daughter of Resident)

Preet Shergill, Associate Director of Peverel Court Care, dedicated the award to everyone who helps us to deliver outstanding levels of care to our residents, saying:

“Well done to all of the Peverel Court Care team for your outstanding work in 2018. The exceptional levels of care provided were captured in numerous excellent reviews from those who matter most; residents and their relatives. Those excellent reviews have been recognised with this award. Well done to an outstanding team on winning this award for four consecutive years!”

Peverel Court Care – Top 20 Care Home Group in UK Award

We are delighted to announce that our incredible staff and management teams at Peverel Court Care have been given an award through carehome.co.uk.

We’re officially one of the top twenty most recommended care home groups in United Kingdom, an amazing accolade that makes us incredibly proud

This award is extremely special, because winning care home groups are decided by 40,000 reviews from residents, as well as their friends and family members.

At Peverel Court Care we have always judged our own performance on the reviews of our residents and their relatives. We are always asking for feedback from the people who live with us and those who love them, most notably through our resident surveys – in which residents can give honest feedback about the care they are receiving. The fact that so many people have taken extra time out to publicly review us online is thrilling

But the good news doesn’t stop there. Stone House Nursing Care Home has been awarded a similar accolade labeling it one of the top twenty recommended care homes in the South East of the UK. This is an incredible achievement, and we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and congratulations to all of the staff and management teams at Stone House.

Our other two care homes Bartlett’s and Merryfield can’t have been too far behind for their own individual awards! Whilst Stone House has a rating of 9.9 on carehome.co.uk, Bartlett’s and Merryfield are both at 9.8. Their incredible ratings contributed to our overall group award, which we could not have achieved without the hard work and dedication of all Peverel Court Care employees.

In recognition of our achievement we will be awarded two certificates, one for the Peverel Court Care group and one for Stone House, which we will display prominently. We’ll also be permitted to use an award stamp, which we’ll be putting on our website

We would like to extend huge congratulations to the management team and staff of all three of our establishments, who provide exceptional care and have made us incredibly proud. Of the thousands of care home groups in the UK we are honoured to be able to call ourselves one of the top twenty.

Finally, a big thank you to everyone who has taken the time out to review us.

Davina Ludlow, Director of carehome.co.uk, said:

“Care home groups, which put compassion, dignity and kindness at the heart of their care, are making a huge difference to residents’ lives.

“Peverel Court Care has proved that it provides a high standard of care throughout its homes and we’d like to congratulate it on being a top small care home group! We feel it is a real achievement to be recognised for being in the Top 20 care home groups in the UK.

“We feel the best people to rate a care home are the residents and their families and friends. Their reviews reveal that many care homes are warm and happy places to live, where staff go that extra mile to ensure residents have a good quality of life and feel cared for.

“Stone House Nursing Home proved that they provide a high standard of care and we’d also like to congratulate them on being a Top 20 care home in South East England! It’s a wonderful achievement to be recognised for being a highly recommended home by the very people you care for.

“Finding the right care home can be so hard. We hope that our awards will help to make people’s care home search that little bit easier.”
